Professor from the University of Hradec Králové in Czech Republic visited the UM
Matyáš Strnad, a professor from University of Hradec Králové in Czech Republic, arrived at the Universidad de Montevideo at the beginning of May through the agency of the Erasmus+ Mobility Program. He led a series of lectures on different subjects pertaining to the Bachelor´s Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE), which begun in 2022. “They were unsure what to anticipate from my lectures, and I think they had to endure certain distinctive forms of our teaching culture reflected in my presentations. But in the end, I believe it was for their benefit”, reflected Strnad.
The Czech professor covered three sessions of different courses. During the Political Philosophy’s lecture given on May 3, the students learned about “Ideology in Culture: the role of films in society”. On May 8, Strnad shared a session about “Urbanization in Political Science” at the Introduction to Political Theory. Finally, on May 9, he lectured about “Populism: a multifaceted phenomenon” in the Topical Political Seminar.
After these ecounters, the students learned about “their possibilities regarding study mobilities in Hradec Králové; about the faces of populism in Europe, Latin America, and elsewhere; about urbanization’s influence on our political lives; and about politics in movie cultures”, asserted Strnad. The visiting professor thanked the team from the International Affairs Office and his dear friend, Prof. Alexander Castleton, the Director of the PPE program at UM.
