Over a dozen students complete their double degree with the University of London

By studying any degree at the Faculty of Business and Economics, students with an advanced level of English can simultaneously complete a degree in Finance or Business and Management from UoL. Modules of UoL degrees are taught at the UM, and after four years one can be awarded a diploma from the University of London alongside one from the UM.

“Being awarded a double degree has definitely opened new doors for me”
Paula Borraz studies Business Administration at the UM and completed a double degree in Business and Management. She now works as a Supply Chain Executive at Numidia. She chose to study at the UM, among other reasons, for the international opportunities that it offered. She took on this challenge to seize the opportunity to gain a degree from such a prestigious institution like the UoL.

What were the main benefits of gaining a double degree? Do you think it opened new doors?
It definitely opened new doors for me. I think it made a big difference for when I was looking for work because it distinguished me in the Uruguayan job market. Also, I think a degree from this program gives you a different perspective on business, from finance to how to work in such a globalized world.

Beyond that, I think it helped me to become more organized, strengthen my study habits, learn how to work under pressure, among other things.

What aspects of the program did you find the most valuable? What there an assignment or module that was particularly impactful?
Many assignments and modules were memorable. For example, the finance modules, didn’t initially interest me because I saw it as something outside of my knowledge. However, the program from London had a lot of details and was very practical so I quickly improved.

Another one that marked me were the ones about strategy, above all the ones that involved new technologies, because these are subjects I am passionate about and I think they are essential for businesses to succeed and grow.

“The program with UoL adds value to your CV… It’s a completely different methodology”
Camila Paullier decided to study at the UM in 2019 because she new this was a demanding university at an academic level, and for the opportunity it offered with the UoL. She is now a graduate of Business Administration and Business and Management from UoL and works as an executive for SELECT investing at Santander.

What motivated you to take this double degree? What expectations did you have about the experience?
I was motivated by the fact that it added value to one’s CV, offered a completely different structure of studying, and helped me to continue my studies in English.

My expectations of the program were that it would be demanding. I knew I would have to organize myself really well, but that the courses would be super interesting and enriching.

What were the main benefits of obtaining a double degree? Do you think it opened doors for you?
It definitely opened doors for me. Not only to study abroad, but also in the job market. The Universidad de Montevideo is the only university in this part of the world to offer a program from the University of London with the academic leadership of the London School of Economics. The opportunity to attend this prestigious university is so unique, I have friends in Europe who did not get into the LSE for its high demands.

What advice would you give other students who are considering applying to the program?
I would tell them to do it. Not just to study abroad, but also to enter the job market. There’s not doubt that it adds value to your CV. It’s not a program that’s easy to get into. LSE and University of London and a brand that will differentiate in the job market.
